The Awarding Authority has three closed landfills which are under licence by the EPA. As part of licence conditions landfill gas is actively extracted through a network of gas wells and manifolds in the capped area which is then flared. As part of each licence the Council is required to maximise the extraction of gas, balance the gas network system and flare gas in accordance with the licence.
